11 Lacs Unit Fliching Found By DPDC

DPDC (Dhaka Power Distribution Company), the state owned organization has just begun to identify the holes in the system after forming a taskforce. The taskforce have detected some of the biggest evildoers in the DPDC’s distribution system like filcher, bill-evaders, excess abusers etc. 62 industries, house-owners and other commercial firms were fined a grand amount of 2 crore 4 lacs Tk for pilferage of 111 million units of electricity.

A total number of Four teams of the DPDC’s taskforce conducted drives at different parts of the capital, including Moghbazar, Maniknagar, Lalbagh, Kamrangirchar, Demra, Bangshal, Banasree, Banglabazar, Adabor, and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas. Similar drivers were carried out at the Shitalakkha river bank area, Syedpur, Siddhirganj, Chashara, Fatulla and Sadar sub-district of Narayanganj district.

The biggest incident of pilferage was detected at Bismillah Ice and Cold Storage at Shitalakkha in Narayanganj where 1,36,000 units of electricity was stolen in six months. As many as 20 establishments used 62,000 units of electricity illegally by setting up auto-bike garage at Narayanganj.

In a market at Chashara named Army Market, 242 shops used electricity without paying bills of Tk 192 million and installing any metre for many years. GS Kulfi Icecream factory at Narayanganj used riley in voltage circuit in the metre.

The Moitree Press and Publications at Banglabazar pilfered about 85,000 units of electricity.

A former employee of the power development board (PDB) living at Bangshal of old Dhaka illegally used 84,000 units over the past couple of years by denying entrance of any metre reader in his house and paying bills without metre reading.

The taskforce disconnected 105 connections and over 500 metre service wires, 182 chargers, 38 energy metres and one generator during the month-long drives. Four cases were also filed during this time.

Experts claimed that the concerned authority must act strict while serving in the distribution sector of electricity. Detected wrongdoers must be punished and such kind of drives should be carried out at a regular basis, mentioned the experts.
