Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju today said the Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) under the ministry has taken 13 projects of Taka 124 crore 81 lakh for afforestation to face the climate change challenges.
He said this while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Hajera Khatun in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The minister said the work on eight projects has been completed and the five others are under implementation.
The projects include sapling collection for afforestation, plantation of trees on embankments in coastal areas and dried up riverbeds, creating carbon sink in Kaptai area through afforestation, revegetation of Madhupur forests through rehabilitation of forest dependent local and ethnic communities.
Besides, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has introduced annual national awards in 10 categories to encourage general people to play a significant role in protecting environment and ecology for country’s sustainable green growth, he added.
