A total of 600 billion cubic feet (bcf) gas reserve has been found in Bhola. The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration (BAPEX) has confirmed about this new discovery of gas field in Bheduria union of Bhola.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has informed about this discovery in a cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The newly found field has been added at number 27th position in the discovered gas field list of Bangladesh. The new reserve would increase Bhola’s total gas reserve to 1.5 trillion cubic feet (tcf).
BAPEX started drilling the field of Bhola North-1 which is situated at Majhirhaat of Veduria union on 9th December last year.
The Prime Minister said that, due to the cold weather gas is getting frozen and making it unusable.
The Prime Minister also said that, the gas from the newly found field can be used to generate power as it is the most convenient way to utilize the gas from Bhola. Adding the gas from this field to the national grid through pipeline is a costly process. Yet, the government is also ready to consider this option once the proven reserve of the gas reserve will be confirmed for the final time, the Prime Minister added.
Among others, cabinet members along with secretaries from different ministries and departments and other concerned high officials were also present at the meeting.
