Almost TK 1.5 Billion Clears For Rural Electrification

Projects like dredging the Pasur River to carry coal to the coal-fired power plant of Rampal and expansion of electrification in Sylhet division got approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

Electricity will be offered to the villages of Sylhet division and a 13 Km channel of Pasur River will be dredged
for the smooth carriage of coal as per to the ECNEC meeting.

The projects were approved by the ECNEC at a meeting held at NEC conference room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The ECNEC has asserted almost One and a half billion TK to provide electricity to the rural areas of Sylhet dividion. The committee approved projects for expanding rural electrification operations in Sylhet division alongside developing physical facilities at the Rural Electrification Board (REB) headquarters at Tk 14.17 billion.

To facilitate the coal carriage to the Rampal power plant which will be installed by Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd. (BIFPC), a 13 Km of river channel will be dredged. ECNEC allotted 166
crore TK for this dredging.
The river channel dredging will start from the no 9th jetty of Mongla port to Rampal power plant, which will be a Capital dredging project of Pasur River.

The ECNEC approved a total number of seven development projects in that meeting worth of Tk 5,727.40 crore.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, said the government will provide Tk 2,769.35 crore while 9.99 crore will come from the organization’s own fund and rest of the money will be managed by taking loan.
