Approval For Cut Down 13K Trees For A Gas Line

The cabinet has given its consent to cut down a number of trees to ease the installation of gas transmission line. Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited will build the transmission line from Sripur to Gazipur by cutting down a total of 13 thousands and 356 trees.

This special approval came from a scheduled cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

After the meeting, the cabinet secretary Shafiul Alam informed that, there is a prevailing ban on cutting down trees until 2022. But, in this case the cabinet decided to do it for the sake of national interest. However, Titas will plant at least 26 thousands trees in return, which is almost double to the number of cut down trees.

Among the 13 thousands and 356 trees, only 4 thousands and 11 trees are sellable and rest of the trees are just too young to sell, claimed the related sources.
