BAPEX Started Lifting Gas From Rupganj

EB Report

The state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) has started lifting gas from the country’s 26th gas field situated at Rupganj in Narayanganj. BAPEX started lifting 5 million cubic feet gas per day from the well no-1 of that field since 27th March of this year.

State-owned distribution authority Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited sources claimed that the gas from Rupganj-1 is transmitted and distributed using the Rupganj-Kamta national grid o with a safe pressure of 500-550 PSI.

BAPEX started digging of the gas field at Purbachal Residential Project of Narayanganj district on January 25 in 2014, said the related sources. The explorers found a layer of gas at a depth of 3,615 meters on 21st June of the same year. However, the gas was not lifted since then due to several difficulties.

BAPEX sources claimed that, there is one more layer with 6-meter thickness at that field at a depth of 3,600 meter which possesses a chance to turn into another possible source of gas. BAPEX started conducting a 2D seismic survey at Rupganj from the year of 2010.
