Bangladesh and China have signed 27 deals and a few Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) during the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit here on Friday. Amid this bulk of agreements, 4 deals and a single MoU were signed on the country’s Energy and Power sector.
The deals on the country’s Energy and Power sector were signed at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday in Presence of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Chinese President Xi Jinping. State minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and other high officials were also present at that deal signing ceremony.
According to the sources from Power Division, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) signed a deal worth $1.6 billion to upgrade their distribution system. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) inked deal amounting 1.1 to enhance and upgrade their transmission lines across the country. North West Power Generation Company Limited
(NWPGCL) signed a deal of 1.9 billion to implement the 1320 MW power plant of Paira and another deal was signed with Petrobangla. Apart from these, an MoU was signed.
Regarding this topic Nasrul hamid said to Energybangla, “through these deals and agreements the friendship between Dhaka and Beijing will become bolder and the bondage will get stronger in the Energy and Power sector“. The state minister then invited the Chinese authority to invest more in this country.
NWPGCL’s Managing Director Khorshed Alam said that the Chinese Exim bank will grant a loan for the coal-fired Paira 1320 MW power plant.
DPDC Managing Director Nazrul Hasa claimed that the deal would allow drawing the loan within the next three months thus enabling the chances to set off from the New Year.
