BD Imports 2200 Metric Tonnes Diesel From India

Bangladesh has imported 2200 metric tonnes of diesel from India. A
number of 42 waggons carrying that amount of diesel entered into the
country’s territory using the Biral border situated at Dinajpur
district.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now in Delhi on a four-day crucial
visit, and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated
the diesel import on Saturday through a video conference.

The train did set off from Radhikapur of India and delivered the
diesel at Biral. The train reached at Bangladesh’s part at about 1:50
PM. Later the wagons carrying 200 metric tonnes of diesel was brought
to the Parbatipur oil depot of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).

BPC related sources claimed that, another 2,200 metric tonnes of
diesel was imported in March of last year from India using the
Dinajpur border. Earlier, in 2015 BPC signed a deal with Numaligarh
Refinery Limited (NRL) to construct a 139 km of pipeline named
Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline to import diesel to Bangladesh.
According to the deal, diesel will be imported using oil tankers until
the construction of that pipeline finishes.
