A few corrupt officials of Dhaka Power Distribution Company’s (DPDC) Banasree branch are found to be involved in tempering the data of the prepaid customers. The corrupt officials have tempered the usage data of hundreds of their customers and embezzled money by doing this. Sub-assistant engineer Md. Bangladesh has begun the construction of one of its largest power plants in the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar. About 87 percent people are satisfied with the current power supply situation of the country and 11 percent of them even said that, they’re ‘very satisfied’ while rest of the people which is 13 percent are not satisfied at all. The country’s power transmission capacity has increased by about 3500 MW in last one year. State-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) in a statement informed this saying that in the year 2017, five new grid substations were built, capacities of 20 grid substation were expanded and 386 circuit kilometer transmission lines were constructed and brought into operation. The Consumers Association of Bangladesh, or CAB, says it will take legal action against the hike in the price of electricity if the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission does not reverse the decision in 10 days. Discounts have been offered on opening any LCs (Letter of Credit) against importing machineries required to build power plants. The power plant implementer won’t have to deposit any money to open an LC. The banking regulation and policy department of the Bangladesh Bank announced the discount on Wednesday.
