The Department of Environment (DoE) started disconnecting the utilityservices including electricity to the tanneries which have not moved yet from Hajaribagh to Savar following a recent High Court order.
A team consisted of DoE director general (FG) Md Raisul Alam Mondal and two officials from Dhaka district administration and two magistrates conducted drives against the tanneries that have not relocated their tanneries at Savar. Following the High Court order,
the team then disconnected gas, electricity and water supplyconnections.
Up to 12 Pm of Saturday, the team disconnected utility connections of 30 different tanneries at Hajaribagh. The drive started at 10 AM morning at the same day. DoE director of Dhaka Metropolitan area Sukumar Biswas said that, the drive was conducted peacefully and it
would continue until the next day if required.
