ECNEC Clears New 400MW Ashuganj Power Plant

EB Report

The government has sanctioned the construction of a 400MW natural-gas-fuelled power plant in Brahmanbarhia’s Ashuganj.

The project, approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday, will cost Tk 29.31 billion.

State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan said the facility, to be built by the Ashuganj Power Station Company Limited, would be ready by June 2020.

The government will bear Tk 4.20 billion of the cost, while the company would invest Tk 1.52 billion, with the rest coming as project aid.

“It would meet local demands and supply power to Dhaka,” he added.

He said the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cleared another five projects.

Together, the six projects involve a total outlay of Tk 88.25 billion.

The government will sink Tk 63.14 billion, the entrusted companies another Tk 15.24 billion, and the remaining Tk 23.58 billion would come as project assistance.
