Awami League (AL) has promised to provide access to electricity to every household in the country within the next five years if they are voted to power in the upcoming election. The party declared it in their election manifesto for the national election of 2018. Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP) also committed to continue all ongoing big projects on power sector.
AL in their manifesto said that, they will ensure energy security for every countryman. They also promised to ensure rational use of the coal.
Awami League has rolled out their manifesto for the upcoming national election, scheduled for December 30. Party chief and Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, read out the 21-point polls manifesto at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday.
According to the manifesto declared by AL, the party is committed to keeping up their good work for the betterment of the country’s energy and power sector along with other major sectors to fulfill the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation.
AL set their target to generate as much as 28,000 MW of power within 2023 along with 23,000 km circuit transmission line, says their manifesto. They will ensure electricity for everyone within 2020.
Within the year of 2023, AL will install 5 lac km of distribution line in the country. The party will also develop an ‘energy hub’ Maheshkhali, Matarbari area and another one in Payra, Patuakhali.
Up to 2023, the party will take keep up its LNG import project which will ensure 5,000 million cubic feet of LNG gas to the country. The party vowed to intensify the exploration program of oil and gas in the offshore and onshore regions. The party will also install a 130 km India-Bangladesh friendship pipeline to ensure energy security of the country along with another 305 km pipeline from Chittagong to Dhaka.
AL also vowed to raise the refinery capacity of Eastern Refinery Ltd from 15 lac metric ton to 45 metric ton and the party will provide assistance to establish any private refineries.
