Energy Is A Vital Issue In PM’s Upcoming India Visit

Bangladesh will have an Energy dialogue with India in the upcoming visit of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister to India. In that mutual dialogue, both of the countries are expected to exchange their respective information on the geological survey and there will be a discussion on the exploration of gas-oil at sea, establishing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal, conducting training programs and possibilities are there to have a few deals.

Speakers at the second secretary level energy dialogue, that took place on Yesterday at Hotel Sonargaon in the capital in between Bangladesh and India informed about these possible agendas of the upcoming PM level energy dialogue. Energy secretary of Bangladesh Nazimuddin Chowdhury and Petroleum and energy secretary of India K D Tripathi led the discussion on behalf of their respective countries. Both of the countries have agreed on securing the countries’ energy security through mutual effort.

Related sources claimed that, the participants of the energy dialogue discussed on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) and Geological Survey of India (GIS). Besides, they have discussed on exploring the sea blocks numbered DS-4 and DS-6, establishing a permanent LNG terminal at Kutubdia and Train the officials.

Importing gas from Iran, Turkmenistan using the Tapi pipe line, importing gas from Myanmar through a joint approach, importing diesel from Numaligarh of India, blue economy were on the agenda of this meeting, said the related sources. India has proposed to import chemical and wax from the country.

Earlier, the first round of this energy dialogue was organized at Delhi on 16th June of the last year. The third round of this dialogue is expected to be arranged on March of the next year at Delhi.
