Energy Problem to be Fixed within Two Years: Nasrul

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid wednesday assured the business community of supplying uninterrupted power to all industrial units within the next two-year.

“Business community does not bother about power consumption. They want uninterrupted supply of power,” he said while speaking at a conference on “New Economic Thinking: Bangladesh 2030 and Beyond” at a city hotel.

He said the government has been putting tireless efforts including exploration of gas from its own fields, importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and natural gas through pipeline from other countries to fix the gas problem in the industries.

During the session Senior Project Manager of Gate 21 Anders Hasselager delivered the keynote paper at the session ‘Bangladesh’s Energy Economy’.

Professor of the Dhaka University Geology Department Dr Badrul Imam, Business Development Director of ME SoLshare (Bangladesh) Daniel Caganovic and Professor of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering Department Dr Mohammad Tamim were present as panelists during the session.

Mentioning challenges to meet the demand of power in the industries Nasrul said the government will tackle challenges to fulfill existing and upcoming demand of energy to take the country middle income status by 2021.

Nasrul also underscored the need for making professionally highly skilled manpower to increase the energy generation and proper transmission and distribution.

Anders Hasselager said Bangladesh is dependent on domestic gas production, which is the dominant fuel for power production. “Further, the demand for energy is expected to increase in the coming years according to the 6th and upcoming 7th five year plans and the strategy for infrastructure sector”.
