Fuel Prices Likely To Drop In January

Asif Showkat Kallol

The government is likely to cut fuel prices in January to rationalise the value of the petroleum products in line with the prices in the international market, says Finance Minister AMA Muhith.

However, the prices might not go down by a large margin, he added.

Wednesday at the Finance Ministry he told journalists, The rate of reduction will not be much as the oil price in international market is fluctuating.

Muhith also said an announcement in this regard would come after holding a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina soon.

The government had been trying to bring down the fuel prices for a while.

Earlier, the government slashed the prices of different gasoline products by Taka 3-10 per litre on an average in April this year. The prices of octane and petrol were cut by Tk10 per litre while diesel and kerosene by Tk3 per litre.

The finance minister said, We have adjusted the prices slightly this calendar year and that is good enough.

Responding to a question on Bangladesh economy, the minister said 2016 is a good year for Bangladesh economy as business community is performing well in this year and hoped that the next year will also good for economy.

The minister said, Our economy appears to be doing very well although we have six more months of this fiscal year left. Our GDP will be 7.5% by the end of the year.
