Gas Supply To Mirpur Suspended For 19 Hours

People of Mirpur in the capital experienced suspension of gas supply from 10:00pm on Thursday to 5:00am on Friday due to operational activities of Metro Rail.
After a long 19-hour suffering, the gas supply resumed on Friday.
During this period, there was no gas supply in different areas of Mirpur including East Swerapara, East Kazipara, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-13 and Mirpur-14.
Managing Director of Titas Gas Distribution Company Eng. Nowshad Islam told the Daily Observer: “We have stopped supplying gas in Mirpur area due to operational activities of Metro Rail but gas supply resumed after 12:00 noon.”
Finding no other alternatives people of these areas were found buying food like from nearby restaurants.
“I haven’t been able to cook since morning,” said Nurjan Islam, a resident of Mirpur-13 said.
She could not cook anything as there was no gas supply throughout the day. “I was forced to buy food from restaurants.”
One of the residents alleged that the Mirpur area has been hit by such crisis frequently in recent times due to Metro Rail construction work.
Earlier, the authorities of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Metro Rail) had relocated underground pipelines of Dhaka WASA, DESA, DESCO, PGCB, Titas, BTCL, Grameenphone and Fiber at Home but still the utility services of the area are being obstructed due to Metro Rail construction work.
The digging of roads started on Nov 1 last year. “Metrorail project is a vast project. But such works should be more organised,” said Hasim Hossain, a banker.”
The Metro Rail will have 16 stations through Uttara, Mirpur, Rokeya Sarani, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Sonargaon Hotel, Shahbagh, Doel Chattar and Topkhana Road.
Meanwhile, the government initiated revised strategic transport plan (RSTP) to remove traffic jam and transport problems from the capital.
