Govt To Procure Two LNG Carrier Vessels From China

The government has decided to procure two new Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) carrier vessels from China. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese Institute of Maritime and Offshore Engineering HB Co LTD to buy those two vessels.

The MoU signing ceremony held at the secretariat on last Tuesday. BSC managing director Commodore M Habibur Rahman and Chinese Institute of Marine and Offshore Engineering HB Company Ltd general manager Yan Jun signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations at the shipping ministry.

The carrier vessels will be used for transporting LNG after launching the country’s first ever LNG-import terminal at Moheshkhali in Chittagong. The capacity of each vessel will be 40,000 cubic meter of LNG and the vessels will be used for LNG import

After the signing ceremony Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said that, the government has taken initiatives to procure six more big ships from China and a MoU has already been signed.
