Bangabandhu Killers Walks into Gallows

Bangladeshi nation has finally had sigh of relief that the verdict of the Supreme Court of the self confessed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed father of the nation has been executed. 5 of the 12 convicted killers were executed at Dhaka Central Jail last night, one already died abroad, 6 others are hiding. Nation could finally wipe off its curse. Bangladesh from rule of Jungle returned to rule of law. Bangladesh: Five killers of Mujib Hanged

Five former army men were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail soon after midnight past Wednesday for killing the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all but two members of his family on August 15, 1975. They were hanged after the special Appellate Division Wednesday morning dismissed their petitions for a review of its verdict, clearing the way for the execution of their death sentences.

The government has declared the northwestern Rangpur region as a new administrative division comprising eight districts.

The decision came from a Cabinet Division meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR), chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters in the Secretariat.

Temperatures Again Fall in Northern Bangladesh

Normal life remained seriously affected as mercury dipped further during the past 24 hours in the northern Bangladesh adding sufferings to the common people after a comparatively better day on Monday. The minimum temperatures dipped by one to two degrees Celsius during the period and ranged in between 6 and 9 degrees today causing shivering cold and forcing hundreds of people to stay indoors till late morning.

Thousands Shore up Climate Awareness in Bangladesh

Thousands of people, including lawmakers, formed a two-mile long human chain by the shoreline at Kuakata in Bangladesh on Friday to raise awareness of climate change ahead Monday's Copenhagen summit. Kuakata has been selected for the campaign because it is one of the areas going to bear the worst of the climate change in Bangladesh , said ASM Firoz, convener of the Parliament Members Forum on Climate Change, Bangladesh , the organiser of the event.
