Bangladesh Approves RFP for Bidders to Set up Large Power Plant

Ministry of Power of Bangladesh has decided to issue the request for proposal (RFP) in favour of qualified bidders for setting up one of the country’s largest power plants - 450 MW combined cycle Bibiyana unit. Power Cell, a technical wing of the Power Ministry, will soon invite four qualified bidders to submit their respective technical and financial offers for the project, according to official sources. Industry insiders consider the government decision as a major development in the power sector as no large power plant was set up in the last eight years. In most cases, the government process was found to have been stuck up in tender invitation and cancellation only.

 

Power Import From India To Start Thru' Kushtia Border

Ramkrishnapur under Bheramara upazila in Kushtia has been primarily selected for setting up of 250KV power sub-station aiming electricity import from India. A four-member team visited the location. Ishtiaq Hasan, project manager of Bangladesh Power Grid Company, led the team. Sources said the team finalised its report recommending the location as the most suitable site for the sub-station considering the geographical and other facilities. The survey report was sent to the authorities.

Bangladesh Govt to Invite Tenders for 9 Power Plants This Month

Under a mega plan to bring the country to a zero load shedding level from nagging crisis, the Bangladesh government is likely to invite tenders within the current month to set up more than nine power plants having total capacity of about 4,000 MW. According to official sources, all these power plants will be set up in private sector or under the public private partnership (PPP) as independent power producer (IPP) plants

Staggered Holidays for Malls, Shops Planned

The government of Bangladesh is planning to introduce staggered holidays for malls and shops in Dhaka to lower electricity consumption, especially summer when people consume more power, and to ease traffic congestion. The labour and employment ministry has piloted a proposal in which it proposed that the metropolis should be divided into seven zones where holidays will be on alternate days to save at least 100MW of electricity, said the ministry officials.
   

Meghna-II Dual fuel Power Plant: Govt to Invite Bids Soon

The government of Bangladesh will invite pre-qualification applications from power companies within a day or two for installing a dual-fuel (gas-liquid oil) 330-450MW independent power plant at Meghnaghat, said officials. ‘We have finalised the pre-qualification documents for installation of the dual-fuel power plant at Meghnaghat. The Power Development Board will invite the power companies within a day or two to participate in the bidding for pre-qualification,’ power secretary Abul Kalam Azad told on Wednesday

Chittagong: 3 units of Two Power Plants Inoperative

Power Development Board (PDB) was forced to close down three units of two gas-fired power plants having capacity of 480 MW of electricity in Chittagong due to gas crisis. Two units of Raozan Power Plant and another of Shikalbaha Power Plant require gas 105 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to produce 480MW of electricity. The Unit-1 of Raozan Power Plant has been forced to stop electricity production in October last, a senior official of the plant said.
