Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Office Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad urged the power sector officials to frame the personal and organizational “Integrity Strategy” for making Bangladesh a welfare state.
“Integrity Strategy is a guide line for a person to make himself an apparently perfect one and in a same ways it is the guideline for an organization to establish good governance in the state and society,” He remarked while inaugurating a day long workshop at the City titled “Training workshop on National Integrity Strategy (NIS)” at Bidyut Bhaban on Saturday. Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has organized the workshop.
He said NIS is a document, which help us in promoting good governance in the society through preventing corruption by an individual (official) or organization (like DPDC—DESCO or PDB).
“Integrity means behavioral excellence influenced by morality and honesty and adherence to time-tested norms, values, customs and principles of a society which we learn from our religion, family, school and official charter in our everyday life,” he said.
In our professional life we should practice these norms and values in implementing our official tasks, he added.
The government has taken some projects in different ministries with the technical assistance from JICA.
Azad presented a power point presentation at the workshop titled “Introduction to the NIS: initiatives and progress of implementation. Among others Additional Secretary (Cabinet Division) Md. Mahiuddin Khan, Additional Secretary (Coordination) Maksuda Khatun, Secretary (coordination and Reform) Cabinet Division, Additional Secretary (Administration) and Md. Mahbub-ul- Alam also spoke. Additional Secretary Power Division Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus presided over the sessions.
Expansion of e-governance system, operationalising the “Grievance Redress System”, proper enforcement of “Whistle Blowers” and framing a just pay-structure for public servants with provisions for adjustments with cost of living is the major keys to implement NIS in any organization, Abul Kalam Azad remarked.
