EB Report

People all over the world along with organizations and governments will observe the 22nd Annual International Noise Awareness Day (INAD) on today. Bangladesh will also observe the day with various activities like roadshows, view exchange programs, cost-free hearing test and hearing aid distribution programs throughout the country.

The Centre for Hearing and Communication (CHC) has been observing the day since 1996 to encourage people to do something about bothersome noise where they work, live, and play.

The level of Noise pollution in different areas of Dhaka city ranges from 86 dB to 110 dB which even exceeds the range of 110 dB in some particular places like the airport. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) sound level exceeding 40-50 dB is not recommended.

Regarding the observation of the day the general secretary of ‘Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon’ Dr. Md. Abdul Matin said that, the noise pollution is increasing day by day, especially in the urban areas. He said that, the government has introduced Noise control regulation in 2006 but it was not properly followed or maintained by the respective authorities. However, he urged the mass media to aware the people about the adverse effect of noise pollution.
