Madhhapara Mine Production To Resume From This October

EB Report

The Maddhapara Granite mining facility was closed for nearly a year
and is now about to start the extraction again in the next month.
Installation of new equipment, which the mining facility had been
lacking since the last year is almost finished, claimed the authority.

The Managing Director of the Madhyapara Granite Mining Company Ltd
(MGMCL) Engr. Md. Nowshad Islam told Energybangla that, the extraction
would start from the last of the October.

The Raise Boring machine used for mining is installed at the
underground of the facility, reported by the sources. Installation of
other heavy equipment like Crashing and Sorting machine and
Matching-loader, Drilling-jumbo machines is almost on the verge of
completion, claimed the authority.

However, the facility was closed since 23rd September of the last year
due to lack of required machinery and equipment. Complaints are there
that, the contractor company of the mining field named Germania-Trest
Consortium (GTC) was responsible for that unwanted shut down of
operation.

GTC is a consortium formed in between JSC Trest Shakhtospetssroy
(Belarusian state concern for oil and chemistry) and Germania
Corporation Limited (a Bangladesh-based company). GTC has been formed
especially for the Management and Operation of the Maddhapara Hard
Rock Mine in Parbatipur, Dinajpur. Under a six-year contract, they are
to produce nine million tonnes of rock.

GTC started its operation from 24th February 2014. It started with
extracting around 4,000 tonnes of rock daily through a three shift
operation. After a year the field required new machinery and equipment
to get deeper.

GTC submitted a requisition paper to MGMCL demanding Tk 144 crore to
import required machinery on December 2014. IT created some
discrepancy between MGMCL and GTC which prolonged the machinery
import. Petrobangla, at last, came up with a solution which paved the
way to import the required machinery.
