A technical glitch has disrupted electricity supply to Chittagong district for about half an hour.
The district was hit by the massive power cut from around 11:45am to 12:10pm on Wednesday.
Power Development Board’s (southern zone) PRO Md Moniruzzaman told Dhaka Tribune that that the Hathazari-Kaptai and Hathazari-Feni power grids had tripped, leading to the power outage.
“We responded quickly and restored power,” he said.
But electricity was unavailable in some areas in the city.
Moniruzzaman explained: “After a power failure at a station, even when you fix it, it takes some time to resume full power generation.
“That is why electricity supply has not resumed in some areas of the city.”
He hoped power will be restored soon.
