More Gas Production, Less Income

Rafiqul Bashar

Country’s Gas production has increased but the relative income has
reduced on the contrary. In fact, the Gas production of the
International Oil Companies (IOC) has increased mostly. The price of
IOC gas is relatively higher than that of the domestic plants causing
higher purchase and less income.

This information was revealed through assessing some recent government
records on gas-production, purchase, sell, distribution, income,
expenditure.

According to the records, the production was increased by 6.35 percent
within 1 month. As of February 2016, the total production of gas was
2,213.681 mmcf which in March 2016 climbed up to 2,358.254 mmcf.
However, the 140.254 mmcf enhanced gas production couldn’t add much
profit to the state-owned operators’ balance sheet as most of the
contribution in production was from the IOCs. Records suggest that,
the IOC had an 8 percent increment in production in the same month. On
the other hand, state-operated fields had a 3.9 percent gross raise of
production in the same month.

The production of oil along with other gas byproducts like MS, HSD,
Kerosene, NGL, Condensate, Octane was also increased in the recent
times. In fact, in March oil production was raised by 9,970.445
litres.

Titas Gas Distribution and Transmission Company faced a 6 percent
development in its usage in the last March. Seemingly, Bakhrabad,
Jalalabad, Paschimanchal had a growth of 4.75%, 5.07% and 5% in their
respective usage. On the other side, other two state-owned companies
namely Karnaphuli and Sundarban had a fall in its usage.

Evaluation suggests, within that one month the system loss raised by
440 percent in the state-owned distribution companies. Bakhrabad Gas
Distribution Company was in the top of the list, in terms of system
loss, gaining 205.41 percent more loss than that of the previous
month. Titas also had a 45.65 percent raise in its system loss.
However, Jalalabad, Karnaphuli, Paschimanchal somehow managed to
reduce the system loss by 200%, 27.6%, 4.91% respectively.
