MoU With Sweden And ABB To Upgrade Transmission & Distribution

Extensive level of plannings are adopted to upgrade the power
transmission and distribution systems of the country. Sweden is likely
to invest billions of dollars in the sector which will be implemented
by ABB Pte ltd.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding this development project
is signed among the bangladesh’s Power Division, Sweden and ABB Pte
Ltd at the Bidyut Bhaban of the city on Wednesday.

Nasrul Hamid, the state minister Power, Energy and Mineral Resources,
Mahbubur Rahman, the additional secretary of power division, Charlotta
Schlyter, the Swedish ambassador to Bangladesh, Johan D Villiars, the
country manager of ABB Singapore, Horekisan Narayn, the managing
director of ABB Bangladesh were present at the MoU signing ceremony.

Under this project, the transmission system of PGCB will be upgraded.
The overall transmission system is also be upgraded under this
project. Besides, the power distribution system of the DPDC, DESCo,
REB, West Power Zone will also upgraded.

Moreover, underground substations will be installed in different
places under this development program. ABB has already installed
underground substations in different places of the world and this
experience will be used to built such modern and sustainable
underground substations in Bangladesh. The grid system will be
automated along with the energy resource management. Training will be
provided to the related technical manpower to improve the efficiency
and overall skill.

ABB will be conducting feasibility studies on transmission and
distribution system along with the transmission and distribution
authorities of Bangladesh.The project is expected to be completed
within 12-18 months after the final deal signed.

The state minister Nasrul Hamid said at the MoU signing ceremony that,
the price of land is too high now. So, it would be better if we can
manage to built the substations at underground. The government is now
upgrading the transmission and distribution system while the power
generation is already raising.
