Nasrul Urged On Faster And Hassle Free Electrification

The state minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today urged on simplifying the initialization process of any new electric connection and also making it faster at the same time. He also stressed on initializing the electric connection of the household subscribers within one day as well as minimizing the time that usually required for the industrial connection initialization.

The state minister laid particular stress on faster electrifying of the country in hassle free manner for the customers while delivering his speech at a Conference of the General Managers of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB or REB) that held at the Brigadier Sabih Uddin Ahmed Hall on the REB office premises in the city on Saturday. The 3-day conference started on Friday. BREB Chairman Maj Gen Moin Uddin presided over today’s session while Power divisional secretary Dr. Ahmad Kaykaus and Director General of the Power Cell Mohammad Hossain had their speeches among others at the program.

Field level executive engineers, caretaker engineers, presidents of REAs, general manager and BREB’s directors and high officials of 79 Rural Electricity Associations (REAs) or Palli Bidyut Samities (PBS) of BREB are also taking part in the conference.

Obaydur Rahman, the general manager of Manikganj-1 was selected as the best general manager and Abdur Rahim was the best project director this year; the state minister handed over the prizes to the winners.

The government wants to make electricity available to every household within 2021. Keeping this vision in mind, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB or REB) has counted its subscriber crossing 1.75 crore in last December. A total of 79 PBS are extending and initiating the new connections throughout the country.

Brig Gen Main Uddin said, there will be no application left pending. We’re trying to give connection against each pending application, he added. There will be no village or household without electricity and we’ll attain 100 percent electricity coverage by 2021, convicted by the chairman.

Brig Gen Main Uddin also informed that, earlier, 6 of the upazillas were brought under hundred percent electricity coverage and 25 other upazillas were just added to the list. A total of 460 upazillas will be electrified within 2018 with an estimated cost of Tk 36 thousands 912 crore. In order to do this 16 of the projects are already running and 7 more are in consideration. REB is planning to raise its customer to 2 crore within next June, said the chairman of REB.
