A big steam turbine is being installed in the 1320 MW Payra Power Plant. In fact, the steam-turbine is the largest turbine of its kind in the country. One unit of this power plant is expected to commence commercial operation from the August of this year.
Khurshid Alam, the chief executive officer of Bangladesh China Power Company Ltd said that, the one unit of the power plant that is to be commissioned soon has a generation capacity of 660 MW. Workers are trying hard to meet the deadline, he added. The turbine of unit-1 is already being installed and initiatives are taken to install the second one.
There are several 450 MW turbines installed in several power plants in the country. However, a 660 MW turbine is new for the country and Payra power plant is the host of that turbine.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation of the 1320 MW Payra thermal Power Plant in Dhankhali, Kalapara of Patuakhali district on 14th October 2016. Primary fuel will be imported from Indonessia and Australia.
A total of 8 thousand local and 2 thousand of Chinese workers are working at Bangladesh-China Power Company (Pvt) Ltd.
Related officials said that, the construction of the power plant is going to finish soon. Turbine installation of the unit-1 is finished, boiler set up is on is on the verge. Chimney, cooling tower and effluent treatment plant installation are in progress.
