Proven Corruption Could Make REB Contractor Black-Listed

EB Report

The progress in government’s developmental works is being hindered by the prevailing corruption in initiating any new electric connection. Everyone have to take a stance against corruption; The contracting firm would be black listed if any instances of committing corruption is proved against the firm while initiating new connection.

The chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB or REB) Maj. Gen. Moeen Uddin pitched like this while he was attending a view exchange program with the contractors of REB at the head office of REB on Wednesday. Among others many members, Chief Engineers, Project Directors and Directors of REB were present at that program.

The chairman said that, the corruption committed by a few contractors of REB is interrupting the progress of the country, which is also denigrating the image of REB. He informed that, REB had provided electricity connection to 37 lacs subscribers in the last fiscal year and already REB electrified 30 lacs of consumers in the running fiscal year.

Allegations are there that, a few contractors are corrupting the sector and even in some case the allegations were proved, the chairman of REB said. He added that, corruption wouldn’t be tolerated any more. Already REB started to raise awareness among the countrymen against the corruption and as a part of the awareness program REB started miking in 80 REB vicinities along with pestering, distributing leaflets and telecasting special programs in radio, TV.
