REB Ensure Electricity In 95% Rural Areas Within 2018

Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB or REB) has a plan to
ensure electricity for 95 percent of the rural vicinities of the
country within 2018. REB and its member 78 Palli Bidyut Samiti (PBS)
have agreed to improve the quality of service and to lowering the
system losses.

A conference was arranged in the city and it lasted for two days-
Friday and Saturday, where General Managers of all 78 PBSs
participated. Power Secretary Monwar Islam, Bangladesh Energy
Regulatory Commission (BERC) chairman A R Khan, BERC member Morshed,
Managing Director of PGCB Masum Al Beruni, Managing Director of RPCL
Eng. Md. Abdus Sabur, REB chairman Moeen Uddin Khan had their speeches
at the program. “Ensuring electricity in each Household” was the motto
of this conferendce. A performance target agreement was signed with
each of the Samitys for the fiscal year of 2016-17.

A R Khan said, “We want to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for
all of our subscribers”. He said that, to maintain highest possible
service quality, a standard and testing laboratory will  be built. To
implement the proclaimed ‘Vision-2021’, REB has the plan to ensure
electricity for 95 percent of the rural areas of the country within
2018, he added.

Monwar Islam said that, transparency, honesty and responsibility
should be maintained in each of the layers of services.
