Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB or REB) from now on will have to initiate new electricity connections within 7 days of applying for the household subscribers and within 28 days for industrial entities.
A conference called, DGM (Technical) conference of 80 Palli Bidyut Samities (PBS) was held at REB headquarters in the capital on Saturday where the REB chairman Maj Gen Moin Uddin stresses on fixing the time limit for initiating new connections. The slogan of this year’s conference is ‘Easy method and rapid connection’.
The chairman of REB said that, REB has a plan to cover 460 upazillas with 100 percent electricity connection. Already 10 upzillas are cent percent electrified and Prime Minister herself introduced the celebration of achieving the milestone and 30 more upazillas are recently electrified, he added. Maj Gen Moin Uddin also informed that, REB has a number of 1.78 crore of subscribers throughout the country which will soon cross the 2 crore milestone in the next June of this year.
REB sources claimed that, the participants also discussed on various technical issues at the conference including lessening overloading situation or burned transformers, meeting the current and future load-demand of customers, decreasing overloaded 11 KV feeders, routine check-ups of 1-phase and 3-phase meter.
