Science Festival ‘In Fact-2017’ Starts In Dhaka

A science festival titled ‘In Fact 2017’ begins in the capital. Talk shows, lecture events of the Bangladeshi and Russian experts, film, short-film shows, photo exhibition, exciting gaming events and many more events on various scientific topics will be among the menu of the festival.

The festival was inaugurated on today at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Planatorium and will continue at different venues until September 28. The main goal of the festival is to raise awareness among the young generation in Bangladesh in the nuclear field and to promote science and technology.

ANPO-Energy of the future, a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned atomic energy corporation ROSATOM has organized this event with assistance from ASE Group of Companies,a subsidiary of ROSATOM, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Planatorium, University of Dhaka, BUET Nuclear Engineering Club (BNEC), Jahangirnagar University, Russian Center of Science and Culture Dhaka, Information Center of Nuclear Energy (ICONE) in Dhaka

The Inaugural Ceremony was addressed by Basher Md. Zahurul Islam, Director General, Bangobhandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheater, Alexander P. Demin, Director, Russian Center of Science and  Culture in Dhaka, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan and Engr. M. Ali Zulquarnain, Ex-Chairmen, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Shafiqul Islam Head of the Department, Department of Nuclear Engineering, University of Dhaka, Col Abu Zafor Mohammad Salahuddin, Dean, Nuclear Science & Biomedical Engineering, Military Institute of Science and Technology among others.

On the opening day, a seminar and demonstration of a documentary film on nuclear energy and radiation was organized at the University of Dhaka. The Festival will take place at different venues: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre Dhaka and University of Dhaka on September 26, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Russian Center of Science and Culture Dhaka on September 27 and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre Dhaka on September 28, 2017.

A special session and visual exhibition was organized on Yesterday at jahangirnagar University as part of the festival. Engr M Ali Zulquarnain, Ex-Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission addressed at that event.

Aleksey Pimenov, Regional Vice-President of Rosatom South Asia, said that, the science festival will not only popularize science and propagate creative ideas but also it will help strengthening the international bondings. The Rooppur nuclear power plant is a great instance of the profound relationship of Bangladesh and Russia, he added.

Three Russian experts named Rostislav Kuznetsov, Head of Radiochemistry, Dimitrovgrad Engineering Technological Institute Dr. Sharabura Tatiana, Radiation Oncologist and Elia Kabanov, a science journalist are expected to join in different activities of the festival.
