Skilled Manpower is a Must in Energy Sector: BUET Conference

The world’s natural reserve on fossil fuel is depleting and on the other hand, the increasing amount of greenhouse gas that exhausted from the fossil fuels has created a world-wide energy crisis. The world must find a sustainable solution to get rid of the situation. More and more research on renewable technology is needed and at the same time, skilled manpower with an optimum use of energy resources may help us to survive in the future.

An international conference titled ‘International Conference on Petroleum Engineering- (ICPE-2016)’ has started today at the BUET campus. The speakers of the conference have talked about the inevitable energy crisis on today’s inauguration ceremony. Dr. Saiful Islam, the vice-chancellor of BUET was the chief guest of the conference while Dr. Magbul Al Nur, the dean of Mechanical Engineering Department was the special guest of the event.

Three separate technical papers were presented by Dr. Enamul Hossain, the chairman of ICPE technical committee, Dr. M Sam Mannan, the professor of Chemical Engineering Department and Dr. M A Rashid Hasan of Petroleum Engineering Department of A and M University from texas have presented three separate technical paper in the conference.

Dr. Saiful Islam said that, Energy sector is a vital sector and requires special attention for any developing countries like Bangladesh. To overcome the crisis, Bangladesh needs to enhance skilled personnel in the sector, he added.

Dr. M Tamim said that, Bangladesh’s economy has progressed a lot in the past few years so the demand in energy has also increased. The country must feed the energy sector in accordance with the demand to keep the economic progression.

Dr, Sam Mannan in his article titled ‘21st century’s sustainable energy policy’ said that, Bangladesh’s natural resources are limited while the population growth is still high. To achieve the targeted economic progression in the future times the needs to utilize its natural resources wisely, he added. Bangladesh needs to adopt a timely sustainable Energy policy to secure the country’s energy sector, he urged.

Rashid Hasan in his ‘Well-bore heat transfer’ article said that, maintaining the underground’s heat while digging a well of gas or oil is a key thing. Controlling the heat properly may result in a better acquisition and utilization of the resources like gas or oil. He also said that, Bangladesh still lacks expertise in that heat management though there are enough academic resources available worldwide.
