Solar Power with 80pc grant-in-aid from the govt

Solar power is being made available in the remote areas of the country with an grant-in-aid of up to 80 percent of the total cost from the govt. Under this aid project, currently the remote and the most distant areas of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts are being electrified.

The decision of electrifying the remote areas of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat with solar power was made in a meeting of the Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institution Division of the Planning Commission.

Palli Daridrya Bimochan Foundation (PDBF) will be providing the power to the rural areas. Of the total cost of this project, the government will be providing with 80 percent as a grant-in-aid in this regard and the users have to bear rest of the cost.

According to the sources, of Rural Development and Co-operative Department, the entire project will cost as much as 47 crore 42 lac and 85 thousand taka. The 10 most distant unions of Gangachara upazilla of Rangpur district and another remote union of Hatibandha upazilla of Lalmonirhat district will be brought under solar power coverage in this project.

The related sources claimed that, around 12,170 families are there at those distant areas which will be provided with the grant-in-aid backed solar power. Each of the families will get a solar panel having a capacity of 65W and this amount of power is enough to lit at least 3 light bulbs in each of the families.
