Summit To Install 300MW Power Plant In Gazipur

Summit group is going to install a 300 MW power plant at Gazipur and it has signed a Power Purchase agreement (PPA) and an Implementation Agreement (IA) with the government on Sunday.

The deal signing program was held at the Bidyut Bhaban of the city. Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB or PDB) has signed the PPA with Summit group at the program and Summit signed the IA with Power Division and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB).

The plant is expected to be commercially operational by the mid of 2018. Earlier, PDB gave its consent (Letter of Intent (LOI)) to install the power plant on 10th August of 2017.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid was present as the chief guest while Secretary of Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Ahmad Kaikaus was the special guest at the program. Among others chairman of PDB engineer Khaled Mahmood, managing director of PGCB engineer Masum Al-Beruni, chairman of Summit Group Muhammed Aziz Khan, vice chairman of Summit Group Muhammad Latif Khan, vice chairman of Summit Group Md Farid Khan, additional MD of Summit Corporation Faisal Khan, MD of Summit Power Limited  Lt General (Retd) engineer Abdul Wadud were also present.

PDB Secretary Mina Masuduzzaman and Managing Director of Summit Gazipur II Power Ltd Engr Md Mozammel Hossain signed the PPA on behalf of their organization. IA was signed by BPDB Joint Secretary – Development of Power Division Sheikh Foyzul Amin, PGCB Company Secretary Md Ashraf Hossain and Managing Director of Summit Gazipur II Power Ltd Engr Md Mozammel Hossain.

Summit Gazipur II Power Ltd is a joint venture company of Summit Corporation and Summit Power Ltd. The plant is located at Kodda of Gazipur, a 30 km distant area from the capital city. The power plant will be Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) fired plant and the engine that will be used in this plant will be built by Wartsila, a Finnish company. Once built, this will be the country’s largest reciprocating engine among the power plants. Within the vicinity of Gazipur, Summit’s another power plant having a capacity of 149 MW is also currently under construction.
