Appointing a consultant is in progress which will ensure the quality of all instruments and machinery of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project. Besides, taxes will be exempted while importing all these instruments and machinery abiding by the agreement. Bangladesh Army will assist in transporting all the machinery to the project site at Rooppur, Pabna.
These topics were discussed in the third routine meeting of the Bangladesh-Russia joint coordination committee on the implementation of the RNPP project. The meeting took place at Moscow, Russia on Tuesday.
Yafes Osman, the Science and Technology minister of Bangladesh headed the Bangladeshi delegation at the meeting while Alexander Locksin, the Deputy Director General of Rosatom headed the Russian delegation.
Among others, Abul Kalam Azad, the Chief Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue, Anwar Hossain ,Science and Technology Secretary, Iti Rani Poddar, the Additional Secretary of the same ministry, Dr. Saiful Haque, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Russia and Shawkat Akbar, the Project Director of RNPP project were also present at the meeting from Bangladeshi side.
Prior to the original meeting, Bangladeshi army delegation led by Brigadier General Azizul Bari Chowdhury and Brigadier General AKM Shams sat in a meeting with the Russian state owned nuclear power company Rosatom on the physical security of the RNPP project. They also discussed various matters including the transportation of machinery to the project site.
In the key meeting they also discussed about the transportation of cement and other building materials from the sea port and cement factories to the project site. The strategic use of Bangabandhu bridge, railway and river path was also among the discussion list of the meeting. According to meeting sources, various issues were successfully discussed at the meeting including the issue of tax exempted machinery import within shortest possible time.
