Tempering The Data Of The Prepaid Meter: 2 DPDC Officials Suspended

A few corrupt officials of Dhaka Power Distribution Company’s (DPDC) Banasree branch are found to be involved in tempering the data of the prepaid customers. The corrupt officials have tempered the usage data of hundreds of their customers and embezzled money by doing this.

Sub-assistant engineer Md. Sohel Rana and lineman Mir Kamal Hossain of DPDC’s Banasree branch are found to be guilty in the primary inspection for the meter tempering. They have already been suspended and an investigation committee has already been formed to inspect the incident thoroughly.

Sarware Kaynate Md. Nur, the chief engineer (central) of DPDC and also the head of the investigation committee said that the investigation is already running. He’s hopeful to submit the report within a week. He has informed that, more than hundreds of customers data is already found tempered.

Md. Robiul Hasan, an official of the ICT department of DPDC is conducting the investigation. The related sources have informed that, the authority first noticed the discrepancy between the data stored in the server and in the physical readings of the prepaid meters.

According to the primary investigation report, a total of at least 10 lac Units data were tempered. DPDC’s managing director Bikash Dewan said that, this kind of tempering might not be done without any assistance from the customer’s end. However, we’re conducting an investigation and we’ll take necessary steps towards all the individuals involved with this kind of corruption, he added.

Being a lineman Kamal Hossain was accused of acting as a data entry-operator. However, Kamal Hossain earlier failed to prove himself fit as a data entry-operator in an entry examination.

According to the rules, the server that beholds the usage data of the customers provides an access to the sub-assistant engineer with an exclusive password. This confidential password is needed to edit any info on the server which must not be shared with anyone else. Yet, Md. Sohel Rana gave the password to Kamal.
