Timely Plans Can Secure Country’s Energy Sector : Nasrul

EB Report

In order to secure energy savings and attain efficiency, the field under energy security needs to be widened. Energy security is a vital thing and related masterplans need to be materialized accordingly.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Wednesday said so while speaking as the chief guest in a workshop titled ‘stakeholders validation workshop on National Energy Audit Regulation’ that held at the conference room of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).

He said that initially the price of energy efficient machineries may seem to be relatively higher but in the long run those are proven to be more efficient in terms of both performance and cost.

The state minister also said that, if 15% energy efficiency can be secured by 2020, then it will save around 7,482 gigawatt-hour of electricity which is equivalent to the electricity produced in a 2,000MW power plant for one year. “We need to set timely plans and materialize those plans accordingly to secure the country’s energy sector”, he added.

Presenting the key-note paper at the occasion, Siddique Zobair, member of SREDA said, around 54% energy is consumed by the country’s industrial sector. If carefully used, then 31% more energy can be saved from this sector. It suggests that, the industrial sector still has much room for save a lot energy.

Md Tajul Islam, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources also spoke on the program.
