Gas Distribution and Transmission companies have once again have sought for a price hike of gas and already have sent their proposals to the Bangladesh Regulatory Commission (BERC).
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Ltd and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd have jointly proposed for a price hike of gas to the BERC.
According to the sources, the distribution and transmission companies have demanded a three to four time higher prices of gas for power plants and fertilizer factories. Apart from this, they also proposed for a hike of price ranging from 20 to 100 percent for CNG, captive power and industry sector. Again, Gas Distribution Company Ltd (GTCL) also proposed for a hike of transmission charges.
In February of last year, the price of gas was hiked by 22.70 percent on an average which enacted from the following month of the same year. Currently, the price of per cubic meter of gas is Tk 7.35.
According to related sources, the distribution and transmission companies proposed to raise gas tariff for electricity generation to Tk 10 per cubic meter from Tk 3.16 only which is almost a 216 percent hike. Besides, they also proposed for a hike of gas tariff for the fertilizer factories by 342.80 percent which is Tk 12 for per cubic meter of gas. The tariff for fertilizer factories is now Tk 2.71 per cubic meter.
The tariff for CNG is currently Tk 40 for per unit which is proposed to be hiked to Tk 48. The tariff of gas for captive power, tea estate is currently Tk 9 and Tk 7.42 which are proposed to be raised to Tk 16 and Tk
