Titas Terminated 30k Unlawful Gas Connections In March

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company limited, one of the state-owned distribution authority has cut a total of 30 thousand and 30 illegal gas connections along with the illegal gas connections of 1 CNG stations, 3 industries as well as 82.22 kilometers of gas line in this last March.

A mobile court headed by an executive Magistrate have been conducting the drives against the illegal connection of gas for the last couple of years. In last March of this year, at least 18 individual drives were conducted to detect and eliminate those illegal gas connections, claimed the sources from Titas.

The mobile court has found a few CNG station operating beyond the government declared daily time frame of 9 PM to 5 PM. The court then disconnected the gas connections of N M filling station of Savar. The gas connections of Ma Moni Hotel, Janani store, Mannan store was disconnected due to illegal

According to a Manager (Public Relation) of Titas Mohammad Wahiduzzaman, the mobile court also disconnected a total of 41,679 feet of gas pipelines with different diameters including 1 inch, 2 inches in Gazipur area, 100 feet with a diameters of ¾ inch in Narayanganj area. The divisional team has eliminated illegal gas lines having a length of 1,804 feet having diameter of ¾ inch and 1 inch in Narsingdi area; the team also disconnected 22,967 feet of gas line having diameter of ¾ inch, 1 inch and 2 inches in Ashulia of Savar area, 36,690 feet of gas line having diameters of 1 inch and 2 inches in Chandra area, 123858 feet of gas line with having diameters of 1 inch and 2 inches in Tongi area, 42,653 feet of gas lines in Sonargaon area. Titas also disconnected 30,030 illegal household gas connections in the last month. Altogether, the task force of Titas terminated 82.22 kilometers of illegal gas connections.

Titas formed a task force to detect and eliminate the illegal connections in 2014. According to a report of Titas, the task force has eliminated thousands of kilometers of illegal lines since then. According to the records of 2013, Titas had at least 4.5 lacs of illegal connections then
