Shortfall in gas pressure at JFCL: Production stopped

EB Report

Urea production in Jamuna Fertiliser Company Limited (JFCL) at Tarakandi in Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur district has stopped on last Monday due to a sharp drop in supply of ammonia gas to the factory.

Mahbuba Sultana, the acting managing director of the JFCL has informed that, JFCL had been getting gas at around 10-11 kg/sq cm for the last one week where the minimum requirement was 15 kg/sq cm. Throughout the last one week the production was hampered due to the low pressure of the gas which finally leads the factory to stop the production on Monday, she added.

There is a booster compressor at JFCL to maintain required gas pressure by any means which is also currently out of order. Sources claimed that, the booster will soon start its operation as the authority is trying to repair it.

The factory produces around 1,700 metric ton of Urea on a daily basis. However, the related authority has informed that the Urea production will resume once the gas pressure revert to the normal situation or the booster gets repaired.
