Today is Victory Day. The country is observing the day with due solemnity and remember those who laid down their lives to liberate the country.
President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Begum Rowshan Ershad in separate messages congratulated the nation on the occasion.

Elaborate programmes have been chalked out to mark the day.

The programmes of the day heralded with 31-gun salute and raising the national flag on top of all national institutions and wreaths giving at the National Memorial Monument at Savar.
Nation celebrates 44th Victory Day
The nation is celebrating the 44th Victory Day today paying rich tributes to the three million martyrs for their supreme sacrifice for the country during the Liberation War in 1971.

The day started with 31-gun salute. President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreath at the National Memorial at Savar in the early hours.

Marking the day, a colorful parade will be held at National Parade Square in the Old Airport area at 10 am with the participation of valiant freedom fighters, armed forces, law enforcers.

The president will attend the function as the chief guest and will take salute at the parade. The prime minister will attend the function as special guest.

The day is a public holiday. The national flag hoisted atop government, semi- government and private offices as well as offices of autonomous bodies across the country. Important buildings and establishments illuminated at night. Important roads and road islands decorated with miniature national flags, colourful festoons and digitized banners portraying the memorable moments of the nation’s victory in the war of liberation.

Meanwhile, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion.

The state-owned and private televisions and radios are broadcasting month-long special programmes highlighting the Liberation War. Different organizations including Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh Shishu Academy are organizing discussion and display Liberation War related documentary films while the postal department releases commemorative stamps on the day.

Improved diets will be served in jails, hospitals, orphanages and vagrant homes across the country. Destitute children will be allowed to visit the children’s park in the capital on the day, free-of-cost.
