WB Delegation Courtesy Call With Nasrul

An eight-member World Bank (WB) Delegation led by Advisor Phillipe Dongier paid a courtesy meeting with State Minister for Power, Energy & Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Thursday. The delegation discussed issues that include regional connectivity between Bangladesh and Bhutan and India. The delegation proposed for further discussion at the ministerial and secretarial level.

State Minister Nasrul Hamid informs the delegation on ongoing and planned projects for renewable power generation and usage. He also discussed possibility of rooftop solar power, solar park, human resources development for the sector as well as modernization of load dispatch center.

He also discussed the status of regional connectivity. Implementation of LNG terminal and import of hydropower from Bhutan also came up in the discussion. The State Minister also informed the delegation government’s plan for issuing power and energy bond. The WB delegation expressed their willingness to provide assistance for launching the bond.

State Minister said on the meet, “We will implement our plans through mutual cooperation. We are accountable to the people and plan to complete the projects on time.” On usual delay in accessioning the loan or financial support from donor agencies, the State Minister said, “There should be sincere efforts for expediting the process.”

Energy Advisor Ram Vinay Shahi, Program Leader Jie Tang, Lead Economist Sheoli Pargal, Senior Energy Experts Md. Iqbal, Zubair K M Sadeque and Mohammad Anis and Director General of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain were present in meeting.
