Fuel diversification would increase energy security of Bangladesh, according to a study conducted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The ADB published its study report thursday focusing review of energy security situation in Bangladesh and understanding issues and challenges, recommendations on fuel diversification option along with others at Bijoy Hall in Bidyut Bhaban in the city.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid spoke in the workshop titled “Inception Workshop on “Study on Energy Security” as the chief guest.
Hamid said that the his ministry would consider the study for further development of the energy sector as the world is moving forward for renewable energy.
“We need proper planning for ensuring energy security in the country,” the state minister added. The government would discuss of the report and take necessary measures to develop the energy sector, he said.
According to the study report, Bangladesh is one of the “Next Eleven” economies having potential to join the BRICS, as energy sector is expected to be one of the key enablers for sustained socioeconomic development.
Officials of the ministry and the ADB were present at the workshop.
