Wild elephant kills 2, injures 2 in Netrokona

NETRAKONA, April 24, 2014 (BSS)- Two people were killed and
two others injured in an attack by an elephant in Choklangura and
Sadupara border village under Durgapur upazila of the district
today.

The victims were Taher Uddin, 70, of Choklangura village and
Shibu Pandey, 40, of Sadupara village of the upazila.

The injured persons Gita Rani, 55, and Abdur Rahim, 54, were
admitted to Durgapur upazila health complex.

The wild-elephant also damaged some residential houses and
standing Boro crops on a vast tact of land in the areas.

Locals said the wild elephant coming from the border area
entered the villages in the early hours and attacked Taher while
he was returning home from mosque after saying Fajr prayers
killing him on the spot. At the same time, the elephant destroyed
some houses at the village.

Shibu was trampled to death by the elephant as he was walking
inside his house in the village.

Being informed, a team of police from Durgaour thana rushed
to the spot and brought the situation under control after firing
16 round of bullets, said Sub-inspector of the thana Saidur
Rahman.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Abul Kalam Azad
visited the affected areas and donated Taka 20,000 to the
families of the two victims on an emergency basis.
