Researchers and development activists here have underscored the role of students and other youth forces for protecting the natural and renewable energy resources.

They stressed for building up the youths as enriched and knowledgeable on protection of the energy resources so that they can contribute to the issue effectively.

They added the issues of renewable energies, mass-awareness on fuel, rights and access of marginalized population on fuel and climate change should be prioritized.

They made these observations while disseminating their expertise in a students’ gathering titled “Energy Saving and Climate Change” held at Meherchandi High School here yesterday. Bangladesh Resource Centre for
Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) organized the discussion.

BARCIK Barind Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam, Project Officer Jahid Ali and Research Associate Ismat Jerin addressed the meeting as focal persons discussing ways and means on how to reduce the missuses of fossil fuel besides saving and protecting the energies as a whole.

School Headmaster Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Headmaster Haider Ali and Assistant Teachers Ayesha Parveen and Saiful Islam also spoke.

Shahidul Islam said there are scopes of reducing the mounting pressure on fossil fuel through substantial and sustainable promotion of renewable energies in both rural and urban areas.

He said emphasis should be given to motivating the public in general for using renewable energies. Government and non-government organisations can come forward and patronise the sector for building a green environment.

He emphasised the need for wide-ranging use of energy efficient
products to reduce the existing pressure on power demands.
