Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has said that Bangladesh has sufficient stocks of all types of fuel oil, including diesel, petrol and octane. He added that there is no reason for the public to be worried about the fuel situation.
On Saturday, the minister held a meeting with Prime Minister Tareq Rahman regarding the country’s fuel supply situation. He made these remarks to journalists afterward at the Prime Minister’s office in Tejgaon.
To reduce public suffering, mobile courts will be operated at various filling stations across the country starting tomorrow.
The minister said that the ongoing war situation in the Middle East has created concern among the general public. Out of fear, many people are trying to collect extra fuel from different filling stations. The Prime Minister has been informed about the issue. In reality, the country’s fuel stock situation remains normal.
He also said that the government has plans to collect fuel from alternative sources to avoid any potential future crisis. If necessary, those alternative sources will be utilized.
The minister urged people not to purchase excessive fuel out of rumors or panic, saying that such actions create unnecessary pressure on the supply system. Two more fuel oil tankers are expected to arrive in the country on March 9, and there is no risk of any shortage in the supply system.
