The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the purchase of a total of 3,00,000 metric tons of diesel through the direct procurement method to meet the country’s urgent fuel demand.
The meeting was chaired by the convener of the committee, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and was held online on Thursday.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Finance, the policy approval for this diesel purchase has been granted in the context of an unstable geopolitical situation arising from tensions involving Iran and the United States–Israel conflict.
Under the decision, approval has been given to procure 100,000 metric tons (55%) of EN 590 (10 ppm sulfur) grade diesel from AP Energy Investment Limited through international direct procurement. Additionally, approval has been granted to procure 200,000 metric tons of EN 590 Euro-5 (10 ppm sulfur) grade diesel from Superstar International (Group) Limited through the same method.
This was the 29th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for the fiscal year 2025–26 and the 6th meeting in 2026.
