BGB Deployed at 19 Depots: Amid Allegations of Fuel Hoarding Attempts

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Saturday, March 28, 2026)

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at fuel depots across 19 districts in the country.

Since the morning of March 25, BGB personnel have been stationed at a total of 19 depots in 9 districts: 1 in Dhaka, 2 in Kurigram, 3 in Rangpur, 3 in Rajshahi, 2 in Sylhet, 3 in Moulvibazar, 3 in Cumilla, 1 in Brahmanbaria, and 1 in Sunamganj.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued by BGB. According to the release, attempts to hoard fuel illegally have been observed amid the global fuel crisis and rising prices.

BGB stated that it is working to ensure the normal supply of fuel and boost public confidence by maintaining a visible presence in the depot areas. The deployment has been carried out under the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs to prevent illegal fuel hoarding, maintain discipline in fuel distribution, and ensure uninterrupted supply.

To prevent fuel smuggling through the borders, additional patrols have been intensified, including river patrols, establishment of checkposts, and increased search operations. Surveillance has also been strengthened in border areas. Monitoring has been heightened at ICPs (Integrated Check Posts) and LCPs (Land Customs Ports), with regular inspections of trucks, lorries, and other vehicles involved in import-export activities.

The deployment is being conducted under a well-structured plan supervised by BGB headquarters to ensure depot security. Temporary base camps have been set up in secure locations to facilitate operations in remote areas.

Personnel stationed at these camps are operating under the leadership of an officer, ensuring strict implementation of administrative and security measures. They are also taking prompt and effective actions to prevent any untoward incidents, illegal fuel storage and sales, and sabotage, while enhancing intelligence surveillance.

BGB members are maintaining close coordination and a cooperative relationship with depot authorities to ensure swift information exchange.
