Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Monday, April 13, 2026):
A cabinet committee has been formed, with the Finance Minister as its convener, to adjust wholesale and retail electricity prices.
The initiative has been taken in light of rising global fuel prices, which have impacted the cost of electricity in the country. A gazette notification in this regard was issued on Monday by the Cabinet Division.
The notification was issued by Additional Secretary Humayun Kabir by order of the President.
According to the notification, the committee, led by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, includes State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir as members. In addition, the secretaries of the Finance Division, Power Division, and Energy and Mineral Resources Division will also serve as members of the committee.
The notification states that due to the rising cost of fuel supply and increased electricity generation costs under the current circumstances, the issue of price adjustment has gained importance. The committee will assess the necessity of revising electricity prices at both wholesale and retail levels. After review, it will submit specific recommendations for consideration at a cabinet meeting.
The committee may include additional members if necessary and will hold meetings as required. The Power Division will provide administrative support to the committee.
