Cabinet Division Issues Directives to Conserve Electricity and Energy

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Thursday, March 5, 2026)

Initiatives have been taken at the national level to conserve electricity and energy in order to address the current global crisis.

The Cabinet Division has issued directives to ensure economical and responsible use of electricity and energy by officials and employees in all government, autonomous, statutory bodies and corporations. The instructions were issued on Thursday.

According to the directives, electric lights should be avoided during the daytime if there is sufficient natural light, and natural lighting should be utilized by keeping windows, doors or blinds open.

Only half of the existing lighting should be used, and the use of unnecessary lights must be avoided.

During office hours, unnecessary lights, fans, air conditioners and other electrical appliances should remain switched off.

In the case of air conditioner use, the temperature must be maintained at 25 degrees Celsius or higher.

Before leaving an office room, all electrical equipment including lights, fans and air conditioners must be switched off.

Unnecessary lighting in office corridors, stairways and washrooms should be avoided.

Energy-efficient appliances should be used wherever possible.

After office hours, it must be ensured that all electrical equipment—including lights, fans, computers, printers, scanners and air conditioners—are switched off.

Decorative lighting should be avoided.

The use of vehicles should be limited, and fuel consumption should be kept economical.

The Cabinet Division has instructed all relevant departments and agencies under their respective authorities to take necessary measures regarding these matters.

These directives have been sent to all ministries, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners across the country.
